Anti-Vaccination Movement

"Every day new parents are ringing us. They all have the same tragic story. Healthy baby, child, teenager, usually a boy, given the DPT (diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus) or DT (diphtheria and tetanus), MMR or MMR booster followed by a sudden fall or slow, but steady decline into autism or other spectrums disorder."--The Hope Project (Ireland), from vaclib.org
“Parents with children with autism want answers; they want to know what happened to their child, so they blame it on vaccines. They say ‘My child was perfectly normal until they had vaccines,’ but the truth is, they could say ‘My child was perfectly normal until they drank cow’s milk, my child was perfectly normal until they started eating cereal…'" -- Dr. Paul Schreckenberger, Professor of Pathology at Loyola University, from student-conducted interview |
"The compulsory immunization law is a public health issue, not a personal freedom issue. It protects everyone in the school systems and the whole community. Legally speaking, courts at every level, including the U.S. Supreme Court have upheld the rights of states to compel immunization for school entry without granting personal belief exemptions. As a public health effort, vaccines are the greatest achievement ever, especially in the 20th century. In the early 1900's, the biggest killer of children was infection. Vaccines have increased peoples life span by 30 years. Now the biggest killer of children is accidents."
-Mary S. Boyd Health Officer Randolph-Elkins Health Department "I truly am not anti-vaccine. Vaccines are an option that people have when contemplating how to protect against disease, and people should have access to them. But they are by no means the only tool in the tool box." -Louise Kuo Habakus, from Real Mama |
"History warns us that forcing people to vaccinate children can provoke a backlash from a substantial minority of the population. This backlash will be driven not only by those who do not want their children to be vaccinated but also by libertarians who oppose governmental interference in family life."
